Overview: The territory of Anguilla lies 146 miles east of Puerto Rico, six miles (10km) to the north of St. Martin and it is situated between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. It’s the most northerly of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles.

Anguilla is a collection of flat and low-lying islands and cays of coral and limestone, with the capital city, The Valley, situated on the main island of Anguilla. There are conflicts as to who named this long thin island that resembles an eel, some credit explorer Christopher Columbus for giving the island its name in 1493, while French navigator Pierre Laudonnière may be responsible for its French translation – anguille.
