Jamaica Yellow Pages is further targeting advertisers with its 2015 directories.

This with the addition of the new augmented reality feature. The technology behind it creates virtual images for the user via their smart phones and tablets. By downloading the app Layar, to view specially marked pages throughout the directory, consumers get life-like computer generated images providing them with additional content about a product or service. Augmented Reality is extremely useful for advertisers, as it enhances the perceived value of products, services and brands. This technology utilises sound, video, graphics and/or GPS data.

At the launch of the directories, director of Sales at Global Directories, Ladianne Wade spoke to the benefits of Augmented Reality to advertisers.

Augmented Reality can be used for long-term or short-term promotional use ensuring that the money spent by advertisers is best optimised and gives them a competitive edge, she said. When a client has an augmented reality ad in the directory, they also have the liberty of changing the audio-visual component of their ad while the print remains the same.

Director of Publishing and the Jamaica Manager at Global Directories, Lester Garnett said in addition to Augmented Reality, and the magazine-style covers, the directory boasts new features.

The lifestyle section provides a wealth of related information, with an increased menu selection, readers can now see the menus of their favourite restaurants, he said. The Island Pages now provide richer content having improved on the knowledge of our history, culture, food, shopping, entertainment, real estate, hotels, and the natural beauty of Jamaica, providing a great resource for our local and foreign users as well as tourists and schoolchildren.

There are a number of formats that can allow people to go to a website, or if the search is being done from a mobile device, there are advertising formats that can allow people to click on a button and place a call,” .

Jamaica Yellow Pages Recycle and Win Competition Gives Back & Promotes Social Responsiblity

Kingston, April 12— The next 6 weeks will see one of the most important environmental initiatives as the Jamaica Yellow Pages launches “Recycle & Win”, a programme designed to teach primary school children the value of environmental sustainability and social responsibility.

The Recycle and Win Competition will run from April 12 to May 22, with students from 30 primary schools in Kingston, St. Andrew and St. Catherine participating. The students are being challenged to collect as many 2012 or older Jamaica Yellow Pages directories as they can. Prizes including cash, computers and a party to celebrate their contribution, will be awarded to the top three schools that collect the most directories. With the proceeds from the recovered directories going to support Hear the Children’s Cry, the students will also learn about the value of social responsibility and the importance of supporting at risk children.

Jamaica Yellow Pages believes in the power of recycling, as the material makeup of our directories makes  it ideal for recycled paper. This shows the degree to which we consider the environment in our activities,” said Alleyne Graham, Marketing Manager, Jamaica Yellow Pages. “This year we are taking that commitment a step further and for the duration of this project, we hope to inspire and educate the next generation about the importance of environmental protection.”

Graham adds that the benefits of recycling are exceptional. In addition to sustaining the environment for future generations, it reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills, conserves natural resources, and alleviates dangerous greenhouse gas emissions.

“We are proud to be playing such a vital role in ensuring that we have a greener nation.  Graham said. “Social responsibility is important to us as a company, and this programme allows the children to support not only their schools but other children in the process.”

The Jamaica Yellow Pages is a long standing supporter of Hear the Children’s Cry, and since 2009, the company has been the major sponsor of the Missing Children’s Support Programme implemented by the advocacy group.

Betty Ann Blaine, Convener of Hear the Children’s Cry says she is pleased with the Jamaica Yellow Pages and their timely and practical approach with the launch of the Recycle and Win Competition. “Our children need the support and we welcome this move not only to offer financial assistance to protect our most vulnerable, but to also contribute to their future in an overarching way – ensuring that they are beneficiaries of a better environment,” she said. “It’s children helping children, and that is a spirit that we need to build and promote to ensure that we have more empathy, more love and more expressive children who can grow up to become productive citizens of this country.”

Supporting partners for the Recycle and Win Competition are CIBC (First Caribbean International Bank), British Caribbean Insurance Company (BCIC), Tastee, World Brands Services, and Coldfield Manufacturing.
